The Candy is Coming...

Every year I load up on barrels of candy for fear that our small street of five children will suddenly decide to bring all their friends. When all is said and done, I've managed to pass out a handful of candy bars while effectively sabotaging my chances of watching my weight over the holidays.

This year I got smart.

Instead of dumping all the candy in a gigantic bowl that would tempt me all day and night, I bought a bunch of halloween bags and stowed bunches of candy in each one, secured by a little tie. I did this for the neighborhood kids, as well as for my husband's co-workers who will receive them on our annual Halloween excursion to the office. (Though, considering the current state of the market, black and orange colored flasks containing a pumpkin flavored liquor may be more appropriate).

I am SO ready to beat the candy...right after I finish off the extra pieces of candy that didn't fit into the 40 bags I purchased at Target.

I am SO not ready to beat the candy.

Pumpkin flavored liquor - Yeah!
I can't wait to see what O is going to be this year - the flamingo is gonna be one tough act to follow!

Do what I do...buy candy you know you won't eat...Yes, I'll be the one lady in the USA doling out the Zagnuts and Mary Janes...yuck! The hard part comes when the kids bring home their trick or treats! They have one week to eat it or it goes to work with Daddy.

A tip for after the treats come home... in our area, there have recently sprung up a number of groups that collect leftover candy, sort it, and donate it to the troops for children overseas and other worthy groups. I volunteered to take mine and that of a number of friends' candy and drop it off last year. I'm sure there are similar opportunities everywhere. Or you could try my girlfriend's idea... she gives the candy several days in the house, and then the "Halloween fairy" comes and takes it, replacing it with a toy. Not a bad exchange in my opinion.

I'm with Julie...
Come to my house for an all-you-can eat buffet of junior mints, safety- loop-handled lollipops, those lame bags of pretzels, and Smarties. Not just resistible, economical too! However, Mary Janes are the ultimate un-temptation if you ask me. BTW...what is a Zagnut?
