With every presidential address to Congress, I always tune in, regardless of who holds executive power, and I always regret doing it.
It has nothing to do with the message or the manner. It has everything to do with the clapping.
I can't stand it.
A twenty minute speech takes fifty minutes because political celebrities need to applaud the fact that they're great or they need to sit with a schoolboy scowl if their man isn't on top.
I think we should start a petition that requires the speech to be carried out like a school awards ceremony....save all clapping for the end.
If we're being honest, I tuned out after only a few minutes and instead just settled for the NPR recap this morning.
